Heritage Clones Pinot Noir

In 2015, we grafted part of our Ten Oaks Vineyard to a variety of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay clones. By grafting, we brought new plant diversity to this vineyard while maintaining the existing root system of our mature vines. One of the clones we selected to graft onto our vines was the Calera clone, which has been a favorite at our Carneros Estate. We have been very pleased by this clone’s performance at our Ten Oaks Vineyard that we decided to start producing a top-barrel selection from this vineyard block in 2016.

Ten Oaks Vineyard

Planted in 1997 and acquired by Donum in 2013, the Ten Oaks Vineyard lies in the heart of the Russian River Valley appellation. This vineyard sits in a warmer microclimate, yielding a richer, more powerful style of Pinot Noir. In 2015, we grafted a small, 2-acre block of Pinot Noir over to Chardonnay, allowing us to bottle our first vintage of Russian River Chardonnay in 2016. The soils in this section are loamy with high sand content allowing for good drainage, which is perfect for Chardonnay.
